Counseling

What does counseling with Dr. Greer look like?

  • Insight by itself isn’t enough. We need to learn how to connect to ourselves emotionally which is a skill that can be developed.

  • Advice won’t land if it doesn’t come from internal exploration, if it doesn’t come from you.

  • Symptom reduction isn’t the endpoint, full understanding and connection to the self is the goal. Symptoms of pain reduce when the pain is healed and attended to, not abandoned in favor of distraction and pleasure.

  • To change long standing patterns of behavior that are holding you back we need more than coping strategies, we need self understanding and compassion while still holding ourselves to a high standard.

  • Understanding your history gives you the insight and ability to change. What is learned can be unlearned. What is unlearned can be learned.

  • My goal is to create a safe, compassionate relationship with you to help you better understand yourself and make the changes in your life you deserve.

As long as he denies his own agency, real change is unlikely because his attention will be directed toward changing his environment rather than himself.
